Winemakers Carlo Trinchero &
Josh Phelps redefining status!
Raised in the small, winegrowing town of St. Helena, in Napa Valley, wine is in our DNA. We realized our mutual dream when we began producing wine, breaking away from our winemaking families, and developing ideas to craft a unique identity for ourselves.
As we approached the completion of our college degrees, our passion for wine and business was evident. The Taken Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was our first wine created, released in 2010. Each succeeding vintage represents another step we have "taken" on this journey. We have now established a timeless, fun-spirited, wordplay venture to call our own. Whether taken, complicated, or available, we hope you enjoy our wines!
Charles Smith “The Modernist Project”
Growing up just outside of Sacramento, California, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Charles Smith began craving worldly travel at a young age.
Charles' second brand, Charles Smith Wines was themed as “The Modernist Project,” which focuses on the way people generally consume wine today: immediately. The intent was (and still is) to create wines to be enjoyed now, but with true typicity of both the varietal and the vineyard.
A self-taught winemaker, Charles is a true artisan and a pioneer in the wine world. In 2009 Food & Wine magazine awarded Charles “Winemaker of the Year” and in 2010 Seattle Magazine recognized Charles as their “Winemaker of the Year.”
Winemaker Andre Mack
gives wine new life!
While in Texas, Mack was awarded the prestigious title of Best Young Sommelier in America by the highly regarded Chaine des Rotisseurs. This recognition propelled him into the opportunity to work as a sommelier at Thomas Keller’s world-renowned The French Laundry in Yountville, California and later Head Sommelier at Keller’s equally famed Per Se in New York City, where he managed an 1800 selection award-winning wine list.
The wines are unique and distinctive garage wines, initially created for some of New York's best restaurants and are now available nationwide. Mack has been featured in many major publications and was honored in 2007 with The Network Journal’s 40-Under-Forty Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to business.
